Hi all, I hope I don't fall foul of the mods for this but I'd just like to raise awareness about a campaign to save the UKs science funding from proposed cuts by the coalition Government.

Please see here: http://scienceisvital.org.uk

If you're a UK citizen then please sign the petition and write your MP.

Science needs you.

While I think that this is a worthy cause, and cuts to science funding could well affect me personally, it's also a fact that everything is facing cuts. They're not being singled out.

"Defence", as usual, gets a nice boost.

No surprises there :( I wonder how many of BAEs executives have chums in the cabinet and MPs in their pockets.

That's for the current year, not next year. It shows the pre-election landscape, where the previous government was holding off making the big cuts necessary in the hope that it would help them at the polls. You can bet the cuts will be across the board and deep in the next budget.
