I started a web site to release some software at http://www.freedomenv.com (http://www.freedomenv.com/) .

The FE (Freedom Environment) system is basically a set of shell and
Tcl-Tk scripts which is being released in stages --- by utility or groups
of utilities.
The FE (Freedom Environment) includes the following subsystems (utilities):
a set of more than 50 handy Nautilus shell scripts,
a unique text browsing utility, called 'xpg', written using Tcl-Tk for the GUI,
a unique application menu system, written using Tcl-Tk for the 'toolchest' GUIs,
other subsystems and utilities (under construction) written in Tcl-Tk and shell scripts.

I devised a simple install technique. I wanted to provide an install procedure that was
simply a click on an executable --- like on <snip> ******* and other OSes.
Hence each subsystem is available as a self-extracting script. A double-click
on an install script installs each subsystem in a fraction of a second.

In particular,
you might find it helpful to try out the 'xpg' utility. It is a text file browse utility
(especially good for huge text files, like log files, config files, program code, big READMEs, and
lists of files and directories). The 'xpg' text browser has a unique 'Show-All-Match-Lines'
capability that will probably blow you away with your search-efficiency gains.
