It's this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N3JJJY/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1NMJFS3SW0Z7V09600P9&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846). I was looking into getting one from ZaReason, but I needed this thing for school (my 17" laptop isn't exactly portable), and as much as I hate it, I need something running Windows so I can use Microsfot Office. I'm on Amazon about to get it, but I just don't see anything else that compares. I like to have a system that's not slow.

Might be good. My Asus k50 laptop has Intel Graphics as well and they work great (except for modern games, but thats fine as I will never play any). The one you linked says 8hrs, mine said 4hrs and I get 6 with Lucid. So Ubuntu might work great. :)

Yeah I just don't know if it's a netbook, or a laptop/notebook. Well I ordered it, and I'll have it by Tuesday and then I'll have to buy MS Office (Why is it $100 for the disc on Amazon, but $150 for download only on MSs' website? :( ). I have grown rather fond of OO's formula editor, but MS Office file format is the norm and I have to use it so I can actually work with my class partners. *Sigh* I'm just reminded of the updates that failed constantly with Vista (Having a screen that said "waiting for updates to install...updates failed, reverting back" every time which made the boot time like 20 min. was not a good experience), and the issues I had with it, but Win 7 is a great improvement apparently. Well here's hoping for the best!

If I get a BSOD within the first 10 minutes like I did with my laptop then Windows will have a very short life on it. :)

I think I would call it a netbook. For that it is a good buy.

Oh, and LOL. The refurbished there is $100 more than the new ones...

Have you tried installing MS Office in Linux? I could never get it working very well using WINE before, but then I tried installing Office 2007 with Play on Linux and it installed perfectly the first time, and it runs without any problems at all. It's perfect.

Also, just a general note about Acer laptops. I used to work at a place that sold Acer laptops. We sold 50 of them and had 30 come back defective. We stopped selling Acer laptops after that. I hope you got a good one!

It had good reviews, there were a couple that complained about the customer service, but HP is no better, and for some reason my dad praises HP as the best brand. It's the only brand of computers he has ever bought. Yet, there have always been issues for us.

My friend has an Acer from two years ago, and that thing was weaker in every way compared to my laptop, but Vista had less issues on his than it did on mine.

From what I'm reading on the Wine app DB it seems a bit iffy to try to install in through wine. Besides I thing I've used up all my licenses sort of. I installed MS Office 2007 on my dad's computer, my friends' laptop, and my laptop, but it got wiped with Vista. So I don't know if I would have to argue with MS to install it on Wine. I was told that you only get 3 licenses. Well my HP laptop (which works comfortably with Ubuntu) will remain my "play" computer, and I'll use this one for work...and web surfing when I'm bored at school.

I'm really hoping I don't have a crapped out notebook. I also got an external disc drive to make a back up disc (I'm going to make another one after decrapifying it). Now I have to tread back into the world of worrying about viruses *sigh*. Any free AV programs that work well for Windows?

but AVG scored just 6.3 of 10 possible points because it didn't clean up thoroughly. AVG Free left behind executable files for about 40 percent of the threats and left over 80 percent of non-executable junk for another 40 percent.

panda cloud antivirus. I noticed when reading the Avast review, panda did very well, better in some aspects.

For the same budget you might as well try this one (http://www.amazon.com/4520S-I3-350M-15-6-320-2GB/dp/B003B430UO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1285589683&sr=1-1). Very reliable series of laptops, I think one of the best options for just under $700.
