I swear the colors on my new monitor are off...
what should the temperature generally be set to?

It's off for you, we won't see the same thing as you do.

I agree, and you can customize most of you color and theme stuff if you don't like the look of it.

Some idea of what monitor you are using would be a good start and also maybe a support question?

CRT is going to be very different to LCD or for that matter LED. Also what you intend to view makes a dramatic difference. Will you be working on photos, gaming or general use. Each scenario can be set differently.

If it is an LCD, try using a page like http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ to start calibrating your screen alternatively if colour accuracy is very important to you (i.e. you are a designer etc) then you should invest in a screen calibration/monitoring kit.

its LED monitor. I know that the issues might be because the LED is really bright. I moved from a TrueHD laptop screen (the glass ones) to it.

the monitor is a 1080p-rated flatron-e2350.

I do gaming in my windows partition, and general work in linux partition.
which reminds me... I have to keep the laptop screen open because the 1080p monitor doesn't activate until xorg starts...
