trying out firefox 4 beta.

what do you think of it?

I extracted it
opened the directory
ran it as

./firefox so it runs the local bin file in the directory not the firefox in the path

When i click to upload an attachment, it gives me an error to click thru

Using Iceweasel 4 Beta 5. Slightly outdated, but still alright.

Much better than FF3.x

Firefox 4 is fantastic. Lots of new cool features, much better performance, even more customizable...

I'm running 4.0b7pre from yesterday nightly, which introduces the new addons bar and removes the statusbar. Now I can put the address bar in the bottom :)

I noticed I was using my kids laptops and them being long and narrow screens, the field of view is much shorter.
So getting rid of bars improves things a lot.
It is annoying to have to scroll the window to click 'ok'

I use FireGestures (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6366/), which among other things, allow you to configure a gesture for going to the bottom or top of the page without scrolling.

Get FoxTester (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/141505/) extension. It allows to install and launch multiple versions of Firefox without affecting your current user profile and without closing your default Firefox version. You can also do that via commands, but this extensions makes the process a lot easier. See the demo (http://foxtester-extension.blogspot.com).

Your firefox is awesome... I probably won't have the time to mess with that new linux desktop (net connected!) until Friday night or Saturday..

I've been trying out Iceweasel 4.0 Beta 7 today and it's pretty cool.

Just wondering though... will the Linux port get the Firefox menu that Windows has?

Things are looking great so far.

Any way to disable the fade in / fade out in the URL displayed in the address bar when hovering over a link?

It won't. Lest time I checked there were issues with the implementation, so the menu would be a toolbar item, instead of a fixed element overlayed in the window border.

The Linux UI is far behind at this point.

Get Status-4-Evar (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/235283/) extension. It allows to disable that and put it in the add-ons bar.
