For those that haven't heard, Ksplice is an easy to install program that allows you to do critical updates without ever having to reboot. Yes, this includes updates to the kernel.

It's free for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Fedora 13 (desktop, not enterprise) OS. I tried to install it on 10.10 beta but said it doesn't do beta versions.

I just wanted to find out what people think of this. I think this is an awesome idea and if it works well, perhaps it could be implemented in future versions of Ubuntu?

...

Here is the article and a download link (synaptic and software center didn't work for me, but this DEB file did):

Any idea why their website header background shows a Windows 7/Vista style "Reboot required" window? The text is even readable starting with "Windows can't update important files..." see http://www.ksplice.com/pricing

I already see enough advertising for Ksplice on Slashdot. Don't give them anymore support.

Advertising is not always a 'bad' thing. Look at Fedora, Suse, and Canonical. They advertise. They produce. And WE get the product at no cost. ;)

As well, a great deal of Linux code came from 'paid' programmers. It would never be the same without some 'moola' being fed into it. And that's okay with me. I'm happy with the products. :)
