Ubuntu 9.04
Just bought a new laptop and didn't want to lose the Windows that came with it so I tried to lessen the partition it used to minimal and just install Ubuntu in the new, free space but that space was called unused and I can't do anything at all with it now?

You have to create a new partition in the free space for Ubuntu to install on. You can do it at the beginning of the Ubuntu installation process.

This is an extremely common problem. Here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1571332) is one of several recent threads discussing it. Please refer to it, and if you have more questions, feel free to post back to this thread with more details. A screen shot of GParted or some other disk partitioner, or the output of "sudo fdisk -lu" (preferably between a
string and a string for legibility) would be helpful, too.

I thank you much, for both your assistance and the speediness of which it was received, this is one of my major reasons for choosing Ubuntu, speedy and reliable help.
