Attempted to install 32Bit Ubuntu (latest download) from a pen drive & CD. With my HD5570 installed and with it install but disabled. Both resulted in 'Fatal error initialising GPU'.

I removed the card and attempted both installs again with just the on board card (HD3150). On boot i get a load of messages about processes being out of memory and killed.

I booted to the pen drive and read through all the log files on the hard disk installation but the errors weren't present.

To be honest i don't see how it's physically possible to actually install.

Have you tried running a memtest on the machine? Be patient, it might take all night.

If memory is free from errors, you could try installing 9.10:
