Hello,

I have searched through the forums as well as other places and while I tried several suggested solutions nothing seems to help. The problem I have is that when I try to install Ubuntu 10.04 (with the installer recommended by the site universal USB installer) from a USB stick I keep getting stuck at a purple screen with "Ubuntu" and a loading bar underneath.

The bar loads once then freezes and my whole computer simply stops.

I tried running the system from the USB and that also freezes in the same spot, exactly the same screen and all. I have also tried using a different installer (Unetbootin) and tried it with several USB sticks...nothing seems to change.

My system is brand new, never had a OS installed before and is as follows:

AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8Ghz
Asus M4A77TD
Saphire 1GBD5-H Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7,200 RPM SATA
Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 (PC3 10600)

Any and all help is very much appreciated, thank you

EDIT: Solved this by burning another copy of ubuntu on a CD.

First of all check the MD5SUM of the downloaded image which you are using to burn cds and Flash Drive. You have tried installation from both cd and usb so burning at a lower speed won't matter I think.

If that is not the problem, try some other boot options.

Still if no luck, I'll recommend the alternate disc which should surely succeed in installation. A bit advanced installation but not that much difficult.

Since it is a brand-new machine, you could also try a live boot with Ubuntu 10.10 (beta).
