Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I also have Kubuntu Desktop system installed.
Now I wanted to try Xubuntu desktop system.

But, when I use Synaptic Package Manager and select "xubuntu-desktop" a window pops up that says "Mark additional required changes?". One of the required changes it marks is "To be removed" and listed under that is "ubuntu-desktop". Please see attached screenshot.

I still would like to have Gnome. I must be doing something wrong. But, I don't know what.

This link explains how to get a "pure xfce" system: http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce

EDIT: Sorry, did not read the whole post...

"ubuntu-desktop" is only a metapackage. It is fine to remove it. What other packages are listed to be removed?

It lists the following to be removed:
libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio
ubuntu-desktop
ubuntu-xsplash-artwork

Thanks for the info. I'm going to install xubuntu-desktop now.
