Hi,

I need to use the Emacs editor outside of the graphical environment GNOME because some keyboard shortcuts are not workig correctly and because the graphical interface can be distracting in some situations.

When I start up my laptop (Ubuntu 10.04) and then just login on a textbased interface, let's say tty2 and leave the X login screen aside, will power control mechanisms work anyway or could the battery last only a shorter time than with GNOME?

Thanks for an answer,
