View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu Does Not Detect My Wireless Network

Hi everyone,

I want to install Ubuntu on my Compaq Vista laptop, as it apparently isn't compatible with the hardware on my old Dell laptop. I went with the "try without downloading" version first, to make sure it works, and everything works/looks fantastic, but I have a problem. A major one, for me.

It seems Ubuntu does not recognize the wireless card that is built into my laptop. (Presario F730US) I can move the "off/on" switch for the wireless back and forth, but the orange light stays on, and I can't get it to switch to blue, so it can search for a wireless network (my home one, in this case.)

Is there a fix for this? I don't want to install it, if I can't go online with it. Certainly can't do much customizing or anything if you can't download anything new.

Thank you!

How would I go about getting it? Connecting an ethernet cable to the laptop would be a must, but how would I go about getting the program itself?

Thank you.
