Hello:

I have added the following to my email signature:

Sent from a PC running Linux, not Windows.
www.ubuntu.com

Maybe, if all Ubuntians did the same, or similar, more people would give Linux a try.

Canonical proposed to add a "Sent from Ubuntu" as the default signature in Evolution, but it was discarded due to the community overreaction.

Hi!!!!!!

People would just think that "Linux" is a geek tool, like they always have.

It would be pointless tbh.

I find it amuzing that I get emails with:

Sent from my Crackberry

In the signature.

I still think it is a mildly bad idea. Not that I disapprove, it just seems like there are less overt ways to market. As overt I mean ways that do not make me have to alter a default if I do not like it, etc..

There are people who refuse to try out linux because of its users' holier-than-thou attitude. This really wouldn't help us out.

I am quite sure the vast majority of users probably will not care if it appeals to them. Just this method itself does not bother me, merely setting it as default does.

I agree that such a thing has a strong air of snobbishness to it. For average Joe, even if they do know about Linux, they aren't going to be very impressed.

Way to brush aside people you disagree with.

Probably not a great idea. Every time I see "Sent from my iPhone/iPad/latest horrible consumer shiny rubbish from Apple" I cringe and die a little inside.

That kind of "Check me out, I'm so damn cool cos I use product X" thing is a serious turn off.

hmmm? I'm not familiar with the expression "brush aside", and I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anybody.

I believe he's referring to you calling the negative feedback on the idea an "overreaction".

Ok, thanks. Sorry NCLI if I offended you.
