I follow the instructions. I choose the source file and the USB drive. The USB drive shows "3.7 g free"

The option to allocate space for storage of documents and settings remains ghosted and when I try to make the disk I get errors. The errors are different each time.

Any ideas?

You need to tell us exactly what your doing for help.

What is the distro?

Are you using a live cd to install to it?

Are you aware of the boot in Ubuntu generally defaulting to the mbr of the computer? So you have to point the grub install at the thumb.
