Recently, I tried to help my friend install Ubuntu 10.04 side-by-side with Windows XP on his Acer Aspire One netbook.
Unfortunately, the installation process came to a standstill and it quit due to "unexpected errors".
The second time I started the installation, I realized that the option for installing side by side was gone and that I could not mount the C:\ partition on Ubuntu.
The error message is listed below:
====================BEGIN ERROR MESSAGE======================
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 12: Failed to read last sector (299982847): Invalid argument
HINTS: Either the volume is a RAID/LDM but it wasn't setup yet,
or it was not setup correctly (e.g. by not using mdadm --build ...),
or a wrong device is tried to be mounted,
or the partition table is corrupt (partition is smaller than NTFS),
or the NTFS boot sector is corrupt (NTFS size is not valid).
Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Invalid argument
The device '/dev/sda2' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.
Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a
partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?
===========================END ERROR MESSAGE==================
Thereafter, I quit the installation and rebooted into Windows XP. And the bar which indicates loading at boot time stops after going through one round and I get a BSOD following with a crash and then back to the BIOS. A picture of the boot splash with the "bar" is shown below if you didn't get what

In short, I am stuck in a reboot loop. Is there any way to repair the boot sector? Any help would be greatly appreciated! ):P
