For the past 15 months or so I've been using Eeebuntu 3 on my EeePC 701: that's basically 9.04 (Jaunty) with a few added packages to get all the hardware working.

Anyway, upgrade season is here (as always) and I am currently planning to migrate my desktop computer/home file server/general dog's body from 8.04 Hardy Heron LTS to 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. And I'd also like to upgrade my EeePC to EB4/Aurora/whatever it's calling itself nowadays.

I made a live USB of vanilla Lucid, and it didn't want to play nice with my 701 - the (Atheros) wireless card wasn't detected, and I need that wireless connection so I can access files while in the loo. I haven't noticed any cures/workarounds yet, so vanilla Lucid seems to be no good for me.

I also made a EB4.1 beta live USB, and it just wouldn't do anything - it said "Missing operating system" and that was that.

Okay, I can live a while longer with EB3 (Jaunty) for a while longer, then I could move onto Karmic or something... but what about EB4 (or even Aurora)?? These are the OSes especially designed to work with this hardware; so why won't they work? For heck's sake, the Atheros wireless chipset isn't exactly an exotic "not round here guv" kinda wifi interface, so why can't I get it to work?

If there are any EB4 or Aurora devs here, could you please tell me when you expect to release a version that will work with my machine. There's nothing particularly odd about it. SO MAKE IT WORK WILLYA!!!

Thanks.

Does the Ubuntu Netbook Remix work all okay with the 701's hardware - ie the wireless card? What I really want/need is the ability to connect to my home network via wireless, the ability to use external, full-size keyboard/mouse and monitor when I'm at home, and the wonderfully versatile Network-Manager. If UNR can do all that, plus whatever I've forgotten I need to throw at it, UNR might tempt me away from Eeebuntu. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

I don't remember having to do anything to get the wireless working; however, with the number of computers I have, I may have taken care of it without thinking about it. As far as a full sized monitor, keyboard, and mouse, we don't use it that way so I don't know.

You can always make a Live USB and try it.

Odds are if the wifi doesn't work OOTB you just need to install the backported Wireless modules.

Have you considered Jolicloud (http://jeffhoogland.blogspot.com/2009/11/jolicloud-distro-review.html)? It is only of my favorite netbook distros.
