I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with multipartition, few days ago my computer was running properly with Ubuntu 8.04 and Windows XP, but I decided to upgrade to 10.04.
I first upgrade to 9.04 and then to 9.10, where I lost my touch pad. After some research, and with the help of an USB mouse, I was able to make it work and after doing all the proper updates I proceeded to upgrade to 10.04 :(

Now my XP partition is working fine but when Ubuntu 10.04 boots up, the keyboard and mouse are not working, I tried using external USB keyboard and mouse but they will not work.

Can someone tell me what to do, PLEASE !!!!
I was able to boot up with the external CD and 10.10 and it works fine, but I don't want to erase my XP partition, because I need it, I need to recover my Ubuntu partition. Please help!!!

Thanks a lot in advance. ;)

You can do a clean fresh install "over" your existing Ubuntu partition and all your user data on that partition will be retained.
