View Full Version : [SOLVED] Ubuntu 10.04 -- Synaptic doesn't list KPDF?

What happened to KPDF?

I have a nifty installation of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / Gnome 2.30.2 running under VirtualBox. Everything is going quite well, thanks.

BUT, in Synaptic I can't seem to locate the PDF reader KPDF? I have all the default repositories working and have plenty of other programs.

Is KPDF still available in Ubuntu 10.04 / Gnome 2.30.2? Or has KPDF been superseded, or renamed, or...?

Cheers & thanks,
Ric

Hi,
My suspicions were KPDF was replaced by Okular, and Wikipedia says the same:

KPDF has been replaced in KDE 4 by Okular.

Thanks for your help with that! Okular does indeed to be "the next KDPF"...

Cheers & thanks 'gain,

Not solved at all, alas.

Unfortunately this was way premature: Okular is horribly broken (no Print Current Page option; ignorance of LaTeX PS Type 1 fonts; landscape printing doesn't work at all; and lots more).

This is a serious backwards step: they have downgraded what was a solid and reliable pair of programs (KPDF and KDVI) in favour of an experimental interface.

Unfortunately they won't listen, and Canonical has done its users a major disservice in not flagging this when it was proposed by the KDE team.
