I can boot to run from live CD but wont install from live or full install on boot? Installation freezes at 5%? Trying to install to a HP laptop. Any suggestions?

First of all check the disc for defects. It is an option present in the first menu where you select "Try Ubuntu withouth Install" and some more options like that. If that menu doesn't show up automatically, start hitting any key (I used F8 but have read that any key works) as soon as the PC gets past the Bios screen.

Check the MD5SUM of the downloaded images.

If the CD has got no defects and the MD5SUMs are correct, you possibly need the alternate installer. It surely will do the job for you.
