Is there a word for an idea that was thought to be original but then it turns out that you have seen it somewhere before like read about it or saw a photo of something like it. I can't think of the word, help Reddit.
Not like unoriginal or or anything like that, any ideas?

I'm only coming up with phrases and they're not quite synonymous to your thought:
previously seen/read
prior knowledge
preconceived idea
It might be better to say something like, "the idea wasn't novel afterall..."
I'll keep thinking, you've given me a puzzle! :)

This might be far-fetched, but Deja-vu?

Figured it out. Cryptomnesia.
From Wiki: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptomnesia)Cryptomnesia occurs when a forgotten memory returns without its being recognised as such by the subject, who believes it is something new and original. It is a memory bias whereby a person may falsely recall generating a thought, an idea, a song, or a joke,[1] not deliberately engaging in plagiarism but rather experiencing a memory as if it were a new inspiration.

Thanks lol. And banal and hackneyed were both interesting words that I didn't know of so good stuff.

That is a word for it but I was thinking something that had been like something you saw when you were young and don't remember and now think that it is an original idea: Cryptomnesia
Thanks again for trying all :)
