customizing keyboard layout

Hi there

Because the left and down arrow keys doesn't work anymore (on my old laptop computer) I wish to redifine the keyboard layout.

Do you know how can I do that?

xev is what you want it can be used to examine keycodes for many different devices. touchpads, mouse, trackball, tablet
