Hi. I'd like to know why xubuntu comes with XChat if there is another irc client, pidgin? And if there are any disadvantages by using pidgin as irc client instead of xchat?

Because the xubuntu developers prefer xchat to pidgin ?
It is impossible to find a default application that will please everyone, personally I prefer xchat.
If you prefer pidgin, or any other application, install it and remove xchat.
Personally I find it preferable to perform a minimal install and add only the applications I want, you may not be as extreme that way. With that said, I tend to prefer XFCE or Fluxbox and sometimes get lazy and simply install Xubuntu and make a few modifications.

Pidgin is more of an instant messenger client with IRC as an afterthought. If you use IRC a lot, or if you're a channel operator, Xchat would be the better choice.
