Yes and no. Technically its possible but not all computers will be able to boot from it and generally its not a good idea to use a USB flash drive as a replacement for a hard disk.

My computer will boot from a thumb drive. I want to be able to use it on a desktop and a laptop if I need too. I want to be able to add and update the software.

Hi all

I took 10.04.1-desktop-amd64 and did an install on my 8gb thumb drive and it works great. I now can upgrade and install programs and it run fast now. My wife can run Windows 7 and I can have the best Ubuntu. Now I'm looking for an 32gb or at lease 16gb thumb drive for more room.

Thanks Jack
