Who is Nikita?

New series on TV. She is a hot kick a** assassin who was trained I guess against her will by the government and is now trying to give others like here a chance to escape, or something like that.

But yea she is clearly using a Linux Operating System.

As soon as I saw the scene I did a google search and this post came up. Looks like I am not the only one wondering what distro that was shown. They intentionally make the screen edges blurry, but looks like they are using the old Human tango icons.

Based on the original 1990 French film "La Femme Nikita." (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100263/) Also re-made in 1993 as "Point of No Return" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107843/) staring Bridget Fonda. This version was a complete butchering of the original.

There was also another TV series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Femme_Nikita_%28TV_series%29) based on the franchise that ran for four and a half seasons.

But yea she is clearly using a Linux Operating System.

THAT is awesome!!! :D

Miscellaneous Info for Nikita

Categories:

Australian Names, New Zealand Names, Ukrainian Names, Russian Names

Used in:
English and Russian speaking countries

Additional info:

A Russian male name now often used for girls in the English-speaking world, perhaps due to its similarity to the female names Niki or Nita. Perhaps the best-known Nikita in the last century was Nikita Khrushchev, an important leader in the USSR's Communist Party throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. "La Femme Nikita" is a movie and TV series about a female spy and assassin named Nikita.

The original television series, La Femme Nikita, ran for 5 seasons and only ever used Unix based Operating Systems.

Nikita is a male name in Russia, but in France it's a woman's name. Interestingly enough, Vladimir Putin was a HUGE fan of the original La Femme Nikita television show. :-)

This is the second iteration of "La Femme Nikita" on American TV. The first one stared Peta Wilson back in the '90s.

Is it actually an established female name in French? It could be that part of the reason for the title is that it's a male name: "La Femme Nikita," sort of like "The boy named Sue" or "The man called Jayne."

La Femme Nikita? Peta Wilson was stunning as the original Nikita, an innocent person mistakenly recruited as a spy who doesn't like the questionable methods of the business to fight the bad guys and who always keeps her humanity.

They made it again? Wow... LFN went off the air a decade ago. I still get a guilty pleasure from watching it.

Nikita is a nom de plume in the spy business that's ambiguous. Its a secret world run by good people who resort to questionable methods to protect the world above them. In the end Nikita comes to realize the undercover work against the bad guys is a necessary part of life and the freedom, peace and security people have in the real world is because of the sacrifices made by herself and others whom they will never meet.

This isn't the only time ubuntu / linux has been used on "popular" *ahem* shows.

Dr. Who (New One) had a scene, and NCIS has it all the time. Let's not forget Strongbad's newest computer, the compé, which uses a *box manager.

Yeah, I'd noticed it in NCIS, which is nice, because that little workstation gets a fair bit of focus.

The bad guys in Machete used something like KDE, but I couldn't tell whether it was a mockup clone or just KDE with a slightly unusual theme.
