I downloaded the most recent version of Ubuntu from the Ubuntu homepage, and I wrote it to a completely blank CD. (I used Roxio Creator Basic which has .iso support) I slip it into my laptop, boot up the installation CD, and I get a screen with two pictures at the bottom of the screen. I am not sure what they are, but they are small, and right next to each other. Next that screen goes away, and
UNCOMPRESSION ERROR
-SYSTEM HALTED
pops up. any idea why this is?

ADDED: I will try to re-download the iso.
Re download worked, but i would still like to know why this happened.

Nobody will see this, but i figured it out. My optical drive was bad.

In my case, this was RAM problem.
I replaced the ram.
Can also verify problem ram by launching a Memtest86.

kind regards,
