Hi,

Please can someone tell me why I can insert any CD into my laptop and it is recognized and runs but when I put a Ubuntu 10.04 CD into my laptop when I change the BIOS to boot from CD/DVD nothing happens and when I got to "my computer" and double click the CD I get an error message and it shows the CD as being empty.

This CD is purchased from the Ubuntu store and I have burned an ISO of the image myself also.

Please can someone take a look at my system specs that I have attached and tell me if they can see anything that would stop it from running?

I have uploaded the text file here; http://www.wikiupload.com/mZsunMcR

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

If you are certain you have your BIOS set to boot from the CD/DVD drive (It will be listed in your BIOS boot order), I'd suggest running a lens cleaning cd through your system. The general one looks like http://www.amazon.com/3-Piece-DVD-Lens-Cleaning-Kit/dp/B001F0LXVO but they are available very cheaply at discount stores. Any dirt / residue on the cd lens would not affect music cd's but would affect an iso cd.

Regards,

Phill.

Hello,

What do you mean by "Nothing Happens" with the bought cd? Do you get an error of any sort when you boot from the cd ? Are you certain you have saved the changes you made to the boot order in the bios?

What operating system and application are you using to burn your own cd? I have seen posts like this (http://www.duxcw.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=6227.msg41957#msg41957) describing the problem in windows xp and a fix.

Hi, I have tried that and tried 3 different CD's to date, it just shows the CD contents being empty when I right click the CD and select open.

Hi,

Nothing happens as in the installation windows does not open like it should. If I boot from CD it doesn't boot up from the CD it just carries on into loading Windows and gets to the Windows login screen.

If I go to my computer and then double click the CD I get the error, D:/ is not accessible - incorrect function, if I right click the CD is seems to be empty, all 3 of the ones I have tried are shown as being empty.

I tried that fix you suggest this morning and that did not solve the problem either.
