I am completely new to Linux/Ubuntu so bare with me please. I made an Ubuntu 10.4.01 installation disc and attempted to install it on my computer with no operating system currently. It starts the boot menu and then instead of starting the operating system, it goes to a black screen and starts running code. There are a few errors while the code is scrolling the last few lines I get before softlockup are:
W:Skipping nonexistent file /cdrom/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/packages
No value set for /apps/netbook-Launcher/favorites/favorites_list

Sometimes I will get those last few lines, but instead of a lockup I get: Welcome to Ubuntu!
To run a command as an administrator etc. but the operating system never boots.

I can run and install the disc on my laptop just fine with no errors. I am trying to install the Desktop version 10.4.01

Any help or assistance would be much appreciated! If you need anymore information let me know please!
