I can install 6.06 desktop, but would like to move to a 8.04 server. I know I can do an upgrade from 6.06 desktop to 8.04 desktop, but how about to server? cdrom issues and heartache associated with other means of alternate iso installs are beating me up.

There aren't too many differences between desktop and server except for the GUI and a few things on the server side. Your desktop will run all of the stuff the server will.
But you're talking about some versions ago. any particular reason you're not looking at 10.04?

Dealing with some funky hardware. Only cd that computer will read is a copy of 6.06 desktop. (This is being repaired, but I don't want to wait) I want server because it is smaller, and doesn't have as much running. My processor is a P3. 8.04 is about as large as I am willing to go. 6.06 is even smaller, may use that.
