View Full Version : "I'm a Mac" Ad Guy Busted...

Well it didn’t take long after his Apple gig ended for Justin Long to switch to the Dark Side. Known for his portrayal of “Mac” along with John Hodgman as “PC” in Apple’s very popular “Get a Mac” ad campaign, Long is seen using (of all things) a Dell laptop in a promo shot for his new film Going the Distance...

So...
It's not even his own computer. Even if it were, it wouldn't matter.

It doesn't prove anything. It's not his computer. He's just acting. He is an actor of course.

Given the thread title, I was rather expecting the "I'm A Mac" guy to have found himself in the same position as the "Dude! You're gettin' a Dell!" guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Curtis_%28actor%29#Arrest).

Disappointing. :P

I'm so outside of the media loop when it comes to computers that I can only just barely see the irony.

Oh, and you really shouldn't assume what OS people are using. So far I've personally assumed two people were Windows users who weren't, and even just last week I spotted two complete strangers using Ubuntu at the lounge at my school. So really, especially if it's a DELL, you shouldn't be too surprised if there's Ubuntu on it ocassionally.

I love how dumbfounded he looks in that picture. How old is he? It's like he never ages.

Ok.

If you was on a movie set with a hundred people would you.

A. Bring out a $2,000 dollar laptop...

B. Bring out a $500 dollar laptop...

Which one would you miss more, if one of the PA's just slipped off with it while he was actually acting a scene

To straighten things out .. first Kiwi, you are most likely CORRECT.

Having been in and around filming and performing for over 30 years, there is a thing called BRAND marketing. The producer gets extra bucks from a company for featuring or showing a particular brand .. it can be a Coke on the table or a box of Morton Salt or whatever .. some ad agency has paid the production company to put it within visible range.

Look carefully at some of the stuff shot on the streets and then put to use in videos ... if there is a BLUR on the guy's T-Shirt, it is because whatever product it advertised DID NOT PAY to be seen .. NOT because it had a pornographic image or word not suitable for children! (although that IS sometimes the case!)

the dollar signs ($) make writing the word "dollars" unnecessary.
That laptop looks to be more than $500, but remember these are probably just plastic props.

Shamwow?

Either way, gotta say it's a let-down. More petty crime! Less Apple/PC warz!

I'm still deciding which is worse. First, that this drivel made it to a Mac website. Second, that this drivel made it here.

Justin Long is an actor he uses whatever computer on screen the studio pays him to. He was a pretty hardcore PC guy in Die Hard 4, cause he played a hacker.

How utterly boring. He was an actor hired by Apple, so not sure why this would be news worthy.

I agree, he appeared as the Mac in the Mac vs PC commercials. This does not define what operating system he can use for the rest of his life. Who cares?

it wouldn't matter if it involved an empty computer case however his cell phone was always linux.

I always found it funny how 'hackers' are always portrayed as "*type type typity type* ok im in!"

Not a mac as in BSD? Linux? Windows? (what real hacker uses windows for anything other than testing?) Or was it one of those funky hollywood custom themes that leaves you guessing?

I've only seen it once back when it was in theaters, it may have been the funky custom, I don't remember seeing Windows. Not a Mac is still my answer.

Dell pay for product placement in alot of movies. This guy wants money, I'm not sure he cares where it's from. He's an actor, not a fanboy.

If Justin Long is bound to using a Mac the rest of his life, then I'd better not see any of you stop using Linux, ever. Whatever we're using right now, we have to use for the rest of our lives. ;)
