newbe--getting failed i/o error message on new install

10.04 new isnstall from cd goes for a minute then I get this error message

old p3 800 machine ,, will this distro work on an old machine like this Love it on my laptop

I think you need something lighter.Try Lubuntu.http://lubuntu.net/blog/lubuntu-1004-now-available-download
