i want to go back to windows and i have the windows re-installation cd and when i put it in i cannot access it to reinstall the software.
i downloaded ubuntu straight from the computer i don't think that i put it onto a cd. and i thought that even though on the boot up menu when it said just run ubuntu that i could delete it if i would like to. ubuntu is great and all i just want to run both of them at the same time, like choose which one i want to use. and i read that its best to have windows installed first and then download ubuntu and run them as a paired program. but ubuntu won't let me me delete it. i need help wiping it from my computer so that i can restart it. i already loaded all my files on my computer to a disk as to save it. so any ideas/suggestions as to erase ubuntu?

please and if you do help THANK YOU very much.

Although installing Windows and then Ubuntu is recommended, it is not an absolute.

If you have the Ubuntu CD, boot the computer choosing to try not install.

Post the results of the bootscript linked to at the bottom of my post; it will give us a better overview of your setup and make offering solutions easier.

Thanks.

insert windows cd and install wiindows - it's that easy
if formating fails put in a live cd and format the linux drive ntfs

how do you get ubuntu without having it on some kind of medium?
(ie~ disc, usb drive, external, etc.)
I wasnt aware that you could.

oh I see.

You said you d-loaded it straight from your PC with no CD.
Had me confused. lol

Well, good news is,
it's very easy to make a new one.
and with that, you can also use Gparted to reformat your hard drive.

@ LINUX - i don't think i changed it to boot from cd. i downloaded ubuntu a while ago may at the beginning of the year...so i don't remember much. and the cd that i downloaded the ubuntu on was a dvd thingy that worked. and the windows cd is: Reinstallation DVD Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT SP1

@ RASA - okay then. how do i make a new one then?

(btw thanks again you both)

Hey,
First you want to go here~ Ubuntu Releases (http://releases.ubuntu.com/)
Next choose what version you want, (Probably 9.10 or 10.04)
[I would go with 10.04/Lucid Lynx]~ http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/
CHoose the best one for your system~ (32 bit or 64 bit)
But most likely youll want the 32 bit.

So, if it was the Ubuntu 10.04, 32 bit that you wanted, you would choose the file titled
ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
or
ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386.iso.torrent

choose how you want to download it,
either via torrent, or to download the .iso directly.
[I recommend torrents] , but either will work.

Once you download the Ubuntu .iso image,
you can then burn it to a disc, CD, DVD, etc.

Once you have the Ubuntu disc burned,
You are ready to use it.

I assume you know how to burn the .iso to a disc?
