I want to register a domain, possibly 2. The name/s i want are available but i cant decide who to get it through. Ive narrowed it down to 3 and they are priced roughly the same.

Any input/feedback is appreciated.

P.S. Its going to be for business/personal.

I'd tell you to avoid GoDaddy, but that has become fairly difficult. Often, when you think you're not using GoDaddy, you are. I don't know who your current candidates are, but if one of them is GoDaddy, I'd be willing to bet the other two are GoDaddy affiliate/resellers .. If you are hosting remotely and have not already picked a host, you might be better served to find a company that includes the domain name as part of their annual service cost. When broken down, the price of the domain is usually comparable to everyone else.. probably because they're using GoDaddy. ARGH!

I guess just use stupid GoDaddy and grit your teeth at the slimebucket ad campaigns and Bob Parsons' ugly mug.

edit: didn't see the poll! lol

Namecheap seems to be about the cheapest.

Anyone use them?

Personally, I use Moniker, and have done so for years. I've had no problems with them. I haven't used GoDaddy or 1and1, but have heard a lot of bad stories - particularly about 1and1, not sure if I've heard any good stories about them.

Domain Monster (http://www.domainmonster.com/) - we use them for commercial purposes, and I use them for personal use, very very good and also offers full DNS control if needed.

Yes, I use them for several domains. They are fine.

This appears to be a spam topic, however.

There are a number of domain name registrars that offer domain name registration for between $6 and $10 /year.

GoDaddy and Namecheap are only two of them. I happen to also like one of the oldest: DynDNS.com.

I would do a Google search for Domain Name Registrars and then do a price comparison. Don't rely on this type of spam advertising to make a decision.

For a person with an unchanging IP address, any Domain Name Registrar will do. Choose the cheapest.

However, not every Domain Name Registrar does Dynamic IP addresses well, and if you have a Dynamic IP address (as many DSL users have), then choose carefully.

DynDNS.com is the master of Dynamic IP address / Domain Name correlation. Namecheap is ok, but not perfect. I don't even know if GoDaddy has this service.

I don't know much about domain hosting. But my IT teacher uses 1&1 and must like it, otherwise he'd be using something else. I can't say what most services do. But with 1&1 you don't actually have your own IP address. They use virtual hosting.

Never realised theres so many places to go through and things to consider.
Since i dont have a web server yet, i'll have to get hosting too i guess.

I've used domain.com for registering domain names. They also do hosting. :)

They are brand new. What sort of fuss are you talking about?

All the registrars have them advertised as having them now and they are way more expensive than .coms etc..

They are brand new. .com is an old TLD, as it .net and .org. New stuff is always going to be more expensive.

NoDaddy.

1&1 is my favorite.

Think i might go with Moniker.com. Their site seems sleek and not bombarded with other stuff. They also seem secure and offer free parking.

Hosting is out-sourced to Cool Handle, not sure what they are like, but when i get my own server, i can still keep my domain through Moniker which seems reasonably priced and secure.

That video is ridiculous and extremely biased. Find out some facts for yourself, don't just jump onto the "OMG Google iz ev1l" bandwagon.
