View Full Version : [ubuntu] Java apps and theme

September 5th, 2010, 02:27 PM
So I'm using a couple of Java applications recently and I really dislike the way they look.

Examples could include:
Maple 14

Look at Maple (maximized window) compared to Nautilus Elementary.

It just looks BAD.
Now, there's the whole GTK/Qt theme integration thing going on, so I was wondering if the same holds true for Java? Would be really nice to have these programs looking good. :)

Thanks in advance

If the java application have support for other themes (look & feel)
you can usually find some theme settings in the preferences of the application.

You can try this (but I think it only works if the application is written with GTK look & feel support):

Adding that line didn't do anything.

Like I said, this won't work for every Java application. Some of them set the look & feel programmatically and you can't change it with your own swing properties.

See this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=502030

Also have you looked through the menus of Maple and MATLAB and found some preferences/options where you can set the theme?

If not I suggest you post in Maple/MATLAB forums and ask for GTKLookAndFeel.
