hi

I would like to have an icon on my top panel for changing my volume level and muting my sound. how would i go about doing this?

This is one of the changes in 10.04 "Lucid" or just before ...

Right click the panel itself and pick "Add to panel"
Then find and add the "Indicator Applet"

... in earlier releases you have to find and add "Volume Control"

Just confirming that adding the "Indicator Applet" adds volume control to the panel since 10.04. You are not getting the volume control that way? What icons do you get when you add "Indicator Applet"?

you can also
press-> alt+f2
type-> gnome-volume-control-applet

Just confirming that adding the "Indicator Applet" adds volume control to the panel since 10.04. You are not getting the volume control that way? What icons do you get when you add "Indicator Applet"?

display and chat, but anyway running "gnome-volume-control-applet" added an icon.
