I'm using an HP mini 110 running Ubuntu 8.04. After trying to update Pango (big mistake), when I rebooted, I couldn't get past the screensaver. I can't seem to start X or any application. CTRL-ALT-Delete gives me the logout/shutdown options, but if I try to logout, I get "greeter application appears to be crashing...".

So I tried to re-install Gnome. But before doing so, I followed the broken dependencies HOWTO( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=186672 (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=186672)) This didn't seem to be able to remove all packages. For example, sudo aptitude remove -f packagename gives errors. Any help is appreciated.
