I have an old machine running latest Ubuntu. Machine is Dell Optiplex gx260. I would like to know the best solution for a Remote Desktop solution for Mac to Ubuntu machine that is:

1. Free
2. Fast

And if the software is not easy to install, then some instructions or link to those will be appreciated. Thanks.

SSH. Install the server on the Ubuntu box, client on the MAC.

Disclaimer: I'm not a MAC user, so I don't know if it's already there or if you'll need to install something third party, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding it either way.

SSH? I currently use SSH to log into Ubuntu. Mac comes with SSH installed. but that is commandline. I need to do remote desktop to be able to work on Ubuntu via GUI.

Sorry, you did say desktop. NX from nomachine dot com

Client, Node, Server for your Ubuntu server and Client for your MAC. SSH server does still have to be running on the Ubuntu box, but the client is taken care of.
