I have been using UBUNTU 8.04 with my Dell Mini Inspiron. How can I upgrade it ? If I upgrade is there problem after upgrade ?

You can upgrade an LTS release to another LTS release:

However, many people recommend a clean install.

Make sure to backup important data before choosing either option.

In my opinion, try 10.04 as a LiveCD first to make sure it is compatible with your hardware.

To the OP: Backing up evolution emails is discussed in this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=485451) thread in case you decide not to backup whole of your /home directory.
