View Full Version : [ubuntu] ubuntu installation on new computer

I downloaded three versions of ubuntu: 10.04 32bit, 10.04.1 32bit, and 10.04.1 64 bit,
and successfully (I think) burned them to disk.

I tried to boot from disk each of them.
Only the 10.04 32 bit worked.
For both 10.04.1 versions (32bit and 64bit) my machine insists on booting Windows
(even though I held down the F12 key and highlighted the appropriate drive)

Is this a bug in 10.0.1 ?
Or just a nasty Windows 7?

Using a brand new: Dell xps 9100 running Windows 7, with intel i7 960,
9gb ram, and ATI Radeon HD 5770.

Would like to get rid of Windows 7 (or put it in a small partitiion).

Since this computer is 64bit it seems I should be using the 64 bit version of Ubuntu.
But can't get it to boot.

sounds like you have burning issues. Make sure you have burned the CD at the lowest speed possible. Make sure stuff like Antivirus is not running - i.e. anything that could possibly interrupt a successful burn.
