ubuntu cannot recognize any hardware after upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04

After updated from 9.10 to 10.04, I stuck with "unknown monitor", no USB drives, no DVD player, no CD/DVD read/write... which means everything stop working suddenly after the upgrade. Can anyone help?

I have tried System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers, and has not any drivers detected.

If you run a separate /home, I would just re-install. Otherwise, let me suggest you backup your user files and start fresh.

I assume you rebooted
Can you run: apt-get dist-upgrade
