My mom has an hp C4680 all-in-one and xsane. When she uses xsane to scan, the scanner starts about 5 inches from the true top of the scanner bed, so to scan anything at all, I have had to scan to a sd card first, then transfer it to her computer. Please help. She needs a program to scan with that uses the auto-crop of the printer and doesn't cut off the top of pictures.

How do I find that info?
search for hplip in your software or package manager, it should also include versions and extra information, also whether or not it's installed.

I just decided to install any hplip things that weren't already and the version number is 3.10.2-2ubuntu2. hplip was installed with this version number before. Is there newer version I should be using?

Yeah, so it just started working somehow. Probably hplip.
