I discovered a new feature today. Selecting Rythmbox as default mp3 player, when you point at an mp3 file, and hover your mouse at it for a while, it plays you a nice little preview of the song...
Maybe lots of you know this. But to me, this was absolutely something fascinating and entirely new. Very nice feature, helpful if you don't know what type of music you want to listen right now.

That's not Rhythmbox doing that, that is Nautilus.

yea, I was gonna say I dont think it's Rhythmbox either since I use banshee (completely removed rhythmbox) and this feature works for me as well. However mine plays the full songs (stops when mouse if off the icon) instead of a preview

That is nautilus's gstreamer-based media preview. Not anything done by Rhythmbox or Ubuntu.

This freaked me out before I knew about it because my laptop would start playing random bits of music for no apparent reason.

But yeah, cool functionality.

They redesigned the preview graphic for 10.10.
Really nice.

I think nautilus had this back in jaunty maybe hardy i dunno. Karmic for sure.Hardy also had the feature. I remember dragging and dropping music to my audio player, and it played when I left the mouse over a song file.

I gotta admit it's a very cool feature to have. 8)

I have disabled it, it is very annoying.

I guess that's fine, but I like it. I have the "disable track pad while typing" disabled.

Still, I think this feature is quite fun.

Yeah. I thought it was quite cool when I discovered it as well! Nautilus is by far my favorite file browser. Now if only GTK could be resized so that it didn't take up so much dang screen real estate!

file previewing is controlled in the nautilus preferences.

reduce the font size in system->prefs->appearance.

This is new to me. I have been checking it out. There is a menu option under Edit > Preferences> Preview.

It's a pretty cool feature. I'd like to see something like that, but with video. :)

I keep my music on the cloud these days. So it's a bit old fashioned for me to be hovering over actual music files.
