I quit reading as soon as I read wubi.exe :P

No, seriously, maybe it may help the newbies (it's indeed very simple and easy to understand) but I would discourage the use of Wubi..

Nice way for free hits, that's what I think. Good job.

Autorun is not default on many systems so you will want to have alternate instructions for Step 2.

Other than that I like it. Nice job.

Step 1 needs more elaboration. Also, explain a bit more around "Specify the partition in which you want to place the Ubuntu folder in ‘Installation drive’" in terms of what's happening with the file being created, etc.

I think it does help newbies. thats the way i came to ubuntu. if there were no wubi, i would have taken at least one more year to gather the courage for a full install(now whatever you call me, but i am really afraid of creating/deleting/formatting partitions)

And the 'Good job' here stands for? getting the hits or the post?

Thanks :) I will update.

I would. Only if I had known myself :P

I have installed and then uninstalled WUBI almost immediately. I found that the best for a windows user to experience Ubuntu would be to use a live usb with persistence because you don't install anything in your system at all. Next to that i think Wubi would be a good alternative for those who are a bit hesitant to dual boot (no partitioning involved, that is very important for the inexperienced users who are afraid of doing irreparable damage to their windows installations)

Before all that I have tried cygwin. I have never had any success in making it work, everything seemed broken, pieces and bits were missing, things wouldn't start and somehow and drop down menu from x windows never stayed in place etc. The manual/tutorial is a big mess which might as well be written in ancient Greek. It was horrible. cygwin is like WINE in the evil universe (running Linux softwares in Windows instead of the other way around)but a lot bigger and probably more buggy.

In fact bad experience with cygwin on not one, but several attempted installations, is the reason that it took me so long to take a leap to set up a Linux system.

IN the future, for the benefit of other forum users, please include a short summary of a link when you make a thread about it. It's not that I expect to get Rickrolled (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0) or that you're going to link us to goatse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/**********), but it does help make for more useful discussion.

My opinions (doesn't need to be said, I'm still saying it)...

You could just link here...
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi

Aside from that, you don't need to download the whole Ubuntu cd (or Isodisk), you can just download Wubi...
http://wubi-installer.org/

You should explain the limitations of a Wubi install and link to the Wubi FAQ...
http://wubi-installer.org/faq.php

You should then link to some sites that walk through dual-boot partitioning and installing Ubuntu to a dedicated partition. Maybe...

...or...
