If I run a ftp server for my music can an Android device play the music from the website? If so if i wanted to password protect the music for Canadian sharing legality can the android unlock it then play it?

Example coming soon, its a nine inch nails song that was free so its not stealing.

If you want to stream your own music over the internet, look into Subsonic (http://www.subsonic.org/pages/index.jsp).

It has a nice web-based, password-protected interface, plus has android & iPhone clients that will connect to it (password protected as well).

Phone bandwidth or hosting?

Phone bandwidth or hosting?

Both.

You could also try something like Edna (http://edna.sourceforge.net/) but subsonic would be better tbh.
