Dang.

Well, at least I'm higher than the people who call HTML a programming language.

I remember learning machine code programming, then assembly in Tech school.

Never used it in the real world ;)

I don't know what ADA is. I know Ada, though, it's a nice language.

I've seen it before. It's funny. I just always chuckle at "people who insist on calling HTML a programming language".

Lol, why are Java programmers at the bottom?

A question only a Java Programmer could ask :p
Learn something else (except HTML) and you move up.

I don't know Java. I'm learning Python (and FWIW I'm also surprised that Python is so high up in the list).

Don't worry, you are moving up, I'm moving down on this chart. I started with Perl, and I'm now learning Python. :-)

I was thinking of learning some Perl after Python, and this chart settles it!

Why not jump directly to C or Lisp?

Why not jump directly to C or Lisp?
I was actually toying with the idea of trying some Lisp once I become competent at Python. Straight to the top!

Good. C++ is high up there, although I need to get better.

What spot does Erlang get?

What spot does Erlang get?

It's, like, over 9000 miles down. ;) Real functional programmers use Haskell.

i doubt that fortran programmers and VB programmers are aware of each others existence.

I know COBOL thanks in part to my College's requirement to learn it as a prerequesite... and it's completly useless. Don't tell me otherwise!

I know it too, and I hate it just as much as you do. However, there are actually a lot of large companies with old legacy systems that want to hire COBOL developers.

And will pay very handsomely for it, since there are so few of you out there!

Why is VB so high up on the list? I was under the impression that most programmers made fun of people who use VB. I would think that Java would be a lot higher than that.

Well I can definitely attest to the part with Ruby. That was my second language, and yes, at the time I was thinking myself higher than everyone else.......Perl fixed that

No one feels superior because they use Java. No one.

I'm all around on this, I started with Visual Basic, then moved to C++, and now I'm onto Python.

although html not a programing language it is a good langauge to start with as it is used in quite a lot of things and teaches you a few basics of programing

If by basic you mean typing, then yes, it certainly does require you to know how to type! :P

Surprised everyone *wants* to be at the top. Note that it doesn't say "are superior to".
