install trouble on poweredge

I am trying to get my Poweredge r310 to run Ubuntu desktop 10.04.1. I am installing from a USB bootable thumb drive. The live CD boots fine. I am able to install the OS with no problems and I am able to mount the newly formatted installed on drive and see the installation. When I restart the computer, with the hard drive configured as a 250 gb RAID duplicating drive set as the primary boot, the OS does not start and it hangs. Does anyone have any idea on what might be wrong?
