So I was following this guide (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/08/dramatic-desktop-theming-script-elegant.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+d0od+(Omg!+Ubuntu!)) to check out a new theme, which involves simply downloading and using a GUI program that installs the theme. Nicely, it backed up my old theme settings, and would restore them if I didn't like it. Unfortunately, I think I made another backup on top of that one, and lost my old settings. Even worse, somehow in the mix I lost the Ambiance (and Radiance) GTK themes, so when I got to Appearance Preferences, I can't select Ambiance to restore my previous settings. Any suggestions on where to get it? I've tried to look for it on Google but haven't been successful. Reinstalling light-themes in synaptic didn't work either. :/ Any help would be much appreciated; this is rather irritating.

Mate,
I do know that here (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/08/new-ubuntu-light-themes-land-in.html) a version of ambiance exists, not exactly like stock (IMO, a lot better)

Just hunt around on places like gnomelook for it. Its bound to exist on there somewhere.

Good luck!

No worries, load up synaptic (or use apt) and look for "light-themes".

Cheers,

It said I already had light-themes installed, and reinstalling it (both from synaptic and the terminal) didn't work. Maybe the Appearance Preferences isn't showing the themes for some reason?

Regardless, I found this Ambiance Right theme (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Ambiance_R+(Ambiance+Right+Side)?content=123927) on gnome-look, which (as far as I can tell) is just Lucid Ambiance with the metacity values changed around a bit. Thanks for the tip!
