Can i delete a partition and put ubuntu in it?

I was wondering...can i delete my current ubuntu partition and the install a newer ubuntu version in it? if so, how do i do this? thanx in advance!!!

There's really no need to delete anything in advance, just boot from a LiveCD, choose manual installation, and mark your current Ubuntu as root. It will be formatted, so be sure to back up any senstive data first.
