Depends on where you're selling it and to whom.

But you can look around 400 +/- a little.

i am from the UK and not decided on the selling method.
just wanted know worth guide. how much?

I would say about 500 - 700 US dollars. If it were brand new of course.

i'd pay USD $200 for that used hardware. i could probably slap a build together on newegg with similar components new for $350ish. i don't pay VAT tax, though.

Properly marketed and with a fresh install of windows/office/norton and other brand names that novices trust for whatever reason, you may be able to get USD $400 out of it.

im using usd because it's what im familiar with. i've heard that hardware is more expensive in the uk, so maybe my estimates are low.

it is a 2nd hand pc since i have had it for about 4 years

New current prices usually reflects on buying from retail stores or online shops (like newegg) which offer warranties, so I would put it at somewhere between 350-400 euros since it is used, for any sale location.

How bout this. If you still have this pc till christmas, I might buy it for 400 canadian dollars.

It should be worth.
£195.00
$300.00
If in good condition, and aesthetically clean.

See what I'm saying about "where you sell it"? Here, we are pc inclined and know what prices to ask, and so you have low ask prices. Sell to someone local who just needs a good PC with some extra power and you can easily push around 400 USD. :lolflag:

so, essentially, we have between USD $300 and $700 estimated value.

find what that is in shillings or whatever (i couldn't resist, sorry :P ) and put it on your equivelant of craigslist.org at $700 for a week. then, if you don't get any takers, $600 for a week. and so on.

I suggest that if you're interested in actually buying, that you PM the OP to avoid this thread from possibly getting moved to the market  :)

not trying to ruin anyone's sale, but i'd prefer to see people pay unusually high prices that are not part of our community here...

intel core 2 duo 2.66ghz =$40
2gb ram = What type RAM? DDR2 under $25, DDR3 =$30
nvidia 7900gs graphics = $25, sorry but it can't even do VDPAU
250gb HDD = $15, used and a new 1TB is under $80 now
asus p5b deluxe motherboard = $20
sony dvd rom = $3
pioneer dvd dual layer dvd re-writer =$5

TOTAL = $138

I hate when people askk how much they can get for old hardware, because its always worth less than you want it to be.

And yet, I constantly sell used systems for $100-$250 when you can get brand new systems for $400. That system, assembled, I would start listing at least $400 (I might spend a little to bump the RAM). In actuality, I would probably build a Hackintosh out of that system.

would be illegal, but would indeed increase the perceived value to $600.

Just saying, but I have no idea where you got those numbers. If anything these #s look like the type of prices people on community forums would expect to buy a product for thru the community:lolflag: (joke based on how good deals are here and on other online communities) If he wants to max out the value of a product, he will need to sell local or have a formal DBA of some kind. The used market value is for each individual item is far over what you listed. Old computer hardware tend to hit a point on the price curve to where they actually inflate in value compared to newer in date hardware. For an example, just because you can find a 1TB drive for under 80-100 dollars does not make a 250 GB drive a fraction of that price reflected in capacity. A new 250Gb SATA2 HDD still run for appx. 50 USD.

It's possible to push far more than 138 USD. He may not get a sale asap, but if he waits long enough, he will have a sale.

EDIT: Then again, I sell my used systems through my DBA as a business. Private sales can reflect on lower prices. But, there's no reason why patience, location, and the right target end-user can't provide a better deal..

i would like to thank you for your input. i just wanted a 2nd opinion since i thought it might be worth about £200.

since it doesn't have windows and selling it preinstalled with ubuntu 10.04.

Ubuntu may hit the price a little. I managed to sell a high end OpenSuse system for around 600 but that was a couple years ago and it had hardware more in date. But, even that was under value. I needed quick money for bills at the time. In the end, I would say you have a fair price there. Good luck!

I would pay $150 to $200 USD. I am a bargain hunter though. I would want more ram than that. I like the video card and the dual optical drives. I have been building my own computers and never pay retail for a computer.

I have seen a lot of people download the windows black edition for the sake of resale.

Mint is a good choice for noobs....if you go Ubuntu make sure you install Medibuntu and enable all the appropriate eye candy. It makes a HUUGE difference on peoples impressions. People who are new to linux are not going to want to customize it themselves.

What is involved in building a Hackintosh?

Just put together a similarly spec'd machine on pricewatch.
$479.24 shipped.
Tower Only, no peripherals.
All new parts, some of them upgrades to the setup you posted(couldn't find exact matches for all your parts so I went up instead of down when not able to locate same items or was unsure of the exact models).

Of course the fact it is already assembled is worth something, though that would be heavily offset by the word "used" in the item description...

half price would be $240ish. U.S.

Let's see,

Dad just gave me his old Dell XPS 400. It was free. It has a 2.8 GHz Dual Core Intel processor, 2 X 250 GB SATA HDDs, 2 X DVD R/W Drives,
1 GB DDR2 RAM

I maxed out the RAM to 4 GB = $100.00
He wouldn't give me the 22" Samsung Monitor so I gave him $100.00

I already had mouse and keyboard, speakers, bluetooth dongle and wireless PCI card.

I put Linux on it...Free. Probably the best mod so far! ;)

I spent $5.00 on a can of textured charcoal gray Krylon and painted the case.

So, $205.00. Not bad for a computer that blows my G5 Mac out of the water. Plus, It's MY computer. It's MY OS. I love it!

I dunno what any of that has to do with the OP. I guess just to point out that used PCs are cheap.

I would say price the components from New Egg or from a wholesale parts website, add up the total and it should be worth 40% of that price, unless its only been gently used with no signs of wear then you might get up to 60%.

There are tons of ways of installing windows, from tricking a laptop into downloading to a 3.5, to downloading the black edition. Also, Windows can actually be installed to several computers before it gets flagged as non genuine.

Windows IS unfortunately more valuable, but less valuable than a Hackintosh. Linux is awesome but not everyone knows how to use it....if you are going to sell it with Linux, I would suggest using a really easy version like PCLinux or Mint...or Ubuntu, but you need to add Medibuntu and really customize it, enabling all the 3d eye candy if you want people to buy it....otherwise you audience will be limited.
