It seems that this version is determined to hide the volume control. First I removed the little envelope on the taskbar and the volume control disappeared. It is not possible to get it back as it is no longer in the Add to Panel list
So I tried gnome-volume-control-applet
That worked so I put it in the startup programs. Now it does not appear and if I rum gnome-volume-control-applet in Terminal it says it is already running. So where is my volume control? How can something so fundamental as volume control not work?
The sound of course is working fine and it can be controlled from the sound icon in preferences. I just need the taskbar one.
