in 10.04, no ausio in Firefox. Chrome OK.

I have no audio in Firefox with 10.04
using Dell D800
Previous installation of 8.04 worked OK
Chrome works fine
System audio works OK
Skype works OK
Media players work OK
Opening Sound Preferences: Applications tab with Firefox open shows
"No application currently playing or recording audio"
With Chrome running, Sound Preferences says: :"ALSA plugin-Chrome"
What gives?
